And I and Silence by Naomi Wallace

In October, 2013, Dr. Deboeck’s production of And I and Silence by Naomi Wallace was produced by the Department of Theatre at the University of Kansas. The play is set in 1950s America and is about an African American woman and a white woman who meet in prison at the age of 16 and both serve a 9-year sentence (though for decidedly different reasons, underscoring our nation’s racist legal system during the Jim Crow era that has connections to today’s systemic racism), connecting again when they are released in order to make a life together. Below are production photos, the program, a review of the production and video clips of the show.
